BARRY GEISLER
General Manager, Patriot Center
Barry Geisler began working for Washington Sports & Entertainment
after relocating to the Washington, D.C. area in July 1985 from
Long Beach, CA to work for Gary Handleman at the Patriot Center.
The Patriot Center opened in October 1985 and it was the first
university arena managed by a private company. Together, The George
Mason University and Washington Sports & Entertainment were
pioneers in privately-managed campus facilities.
When the Patriot Center opened, Geisler held the title of Director
of Arena Administration, overseeing the front of house operations
(ushering crew, box office, parking staff and event coordination).
When Handleman was promoted to Washington Sports & Entertainment’s
corporate offices, Geisler was promoted to General Manager of the
Patriot Center in January of 1988 with overall responsibility for
the arena.
"Washington Sports and Entertainment gave me an opportunity
to work in my chosen field with a great measure of independence,"
said Geisler. "The company philosophy of treating the business
as if it were your own enables all employees to have considerable
input and make sound decisions. Also, the company takes a very humanistic
approach to working, recognizing that employees have families and
responsibilities that must be incorporated into the work environment."
Currently, Geisler oversees the overall management of the Patriot
Center. He is responsible for maximizing the number of events and
maximizing the revenue generated from the events and is the chief
liaison with The George Mason University. In addition he oversees
the concessions contract as well as the ticketing contract.
